Secret #2

From Sabbath to Sunday

"Why did a Roman pope move the day of worship — and by whose authority?"

Does It Really Make Any Difference?

My friends, let me be plain with you. Nearly every professing Christian on Earth today assembles for worship on Sunday, the first day of the week. Yet ask that Christian to open his Bible and show you the plain command, the plain example, or the plain apostolic decree that authorizes that change — and you will hear only silence, or the awkward shuffling of tradition.

It is one of the most astonishing facts of religious history. Herbert W. Armstrong laid the question flat on the table more than sixty years ago in this very booklet and asked it without flinching: "Does it make any difference which day we observe — or whether we keep it?" (Which Day Is the Christian Sabbath?, ch. 1). The modern pulpit has never given an honest answer.

"Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God… For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it." Exodus 20:8-11

Read that command again. It does not begin with "Consider." It does not begin with "If it is convenient." It begins with "Remember" — because even in Moses' day God knew this command would one day be forgotten. And Mr. Armstrong warned that the very act of forgetting it is prophetic proof of the spiritual condition of the modern churches (Mystery of the Ages, ch. 6).

The plain fact is this: no book of the New Testament, no sermon of Jesus Christ, no letter of the apostle Paul, and no command of any inspired writer ever transferred the holiness of the seventh day to the first day of the week. Not one. That transfer was made by human authority alone — centuries after the last apostle died.

"And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day… And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made."
Genesis 2:2-3

The Sabbath Was Instituted Before There Was a Jew

There is a modern superstition that the Sabbath is "Jewish" — a temporary institution given to Moses for national Israel and abolished at the cross. That superstition collapses on the second page of your Bible.

The seventh-day Sabbath was set apart by God Himself at Creation, more than two thousand years before Abraham, before Isaac, before Jacob, before there was a single Israelite on the face of the Earth (Genesis 2:1-3). Mr. Armstrong drove this point home with unanswerable force: "God made and established the Sabbath — God, not Moses. It was made for man — for mankind — not merely for one nation" (Which Day Is the Christian Sabbath?, ch. 2).

Jesus Christ Himself confirmed this in Mark 2:27-28: "The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath." Christ is not Lord of an abolished day. He is Lord of a living covenant that predates Sinai by twenty-five centuries and outlives Calvary into the World Tomorrow (Isaiah 66:22-23).

A Sign Between God and His People Forever

The Fourth Commandment is not one of Ten Suggestions. God calls it a perpetual covenant and a sign that identifies who His people really are.

Read His own words: "Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever" (Exodus 31:16-17). The Hebrew word rendered "for ever" here is olam — the same word used of God Himself. Mr. Armstrong underscored this point plainly: "It is a sign identifying WHO is the true God, and WHO are His people" (Which Day Is the Christian Sabbath?, ch. 4).

And God does not change (Malachi 3:6). Jesus Christ — the very same Being who spoke the Ten Commandments from the top of Sinai — is "the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever" (Hebrews 13:8). He did not abolish the sign that identifies His people; He magnified it (Isaiah 42:21).

What You Will Discover

Which Day Is the Christian Sabbath? is not a book of opinions or denominational preference. Every point is proved directly from your Bible. Herbert W. Armstrong takes eight short chapters to settle the question forever:

Chapter 01

But Does It Make Any Difference?

The single question the modern pulpit refuses to answer — and why the eternal destiny of every reader hangs on the honest answer.

Chapter 02

Who Made and Established the Sabbath?

Why the Sabbath is not a Jewish institution — and the two verses of Genesis that put the whole "abolished-at-the-cross" argument to rest.

Chapter 03

God — Not Moses — Gave the Law

The proof that the Ten Commandments were spoken by the very Being who later became Jesus Christ — and why He cannot have abolished His own words.

Chapter 04

A Special Eternal Covenant

Why God calls Sabbath observance a "sign" and a "perpetual covenant" — and what the Hebrew word olam really means.

Chapter 05

Which Day for Gentile Christians?

What the apostle Paul actually taught converted Gentiles — and how Acts 13, Acts 17 and Acts 18 quietly demolish the "Sunday-for-Gentiles" myth.

Chapter 06

Why Israel and Judah Made Slaves

The prophecy that ties the coming national captivity of the modern descendants of Israel directly to Sabbath-breaking — a warning for our generation.

Chapter 07

Is Sunday Mentioned in the New Testament?

Every single New Testament reference to the "first day of the week" — examined honestly, one by one. The result will astonish you.

The Amazing Truth About Christian Fellowship

Why the Sabbath is the appointed weekly meeting between God and His people — and what you are actually giving up when you neglect it.

The Promise Waiting for Every Reader Who Will Simply Obey

God has never attached a blessing this staggering to any human tradition. He attaches it only to the day He Himself sanctified.

Hear it in His own words through Isaiah the prophet: "If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honourable… Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it" (Isaiah 58:13-14).

This is not a promise for the ancient Israelites alone. It is a promise for any human being, in any generation, who will lay down the tradition of men and take up the plain command of God. Mr. Armstrong wrote of this promise, "God intended the Sabbath to be a great blessing — not a burden. It is a foretaste of the World Tomorrow" (Which Day Is the Christian Sabbath?, ch. 8).

Bible Verses Changing the Day
Jerusalem at Sabbath eve — the day kept from Sinai to the World Tomorrow

The Day That Will Be Kept in the World Tomorrow

"For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the Lord, so shall your seed and your name remain. And it shall come to pass, that from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the Lord" (Isaiah 66:22-23).

Read that carefully. In the World Tomorrow — after Christ's return, after every human tradition has been swept away — all flesh will assemble before God from Sabbath to Sabbath. The seventh day was hallowed at Creation; it will be honoured in the Kingdom. The only interruption in the whole line is this present age of confusion — and Herbert W. Armstrong sounded the trumpet to end it (Mystery of the Ages, ch. 6).

"There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his."
Hebrews 4:9-10
